You must be a registered participant to submit solutions. Click here to register. Registered participants in the USAMTS may submit solutions to any of the problems. We strongly urge you to follow the guidelines below.

  • Use the solution form on the My USAMTS Forms page. If you cannot print the form, and cannot use LaTeX, then you can use a standard size 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper. No piece of paper should have work for more than one problem. Thus, each problem should start on a new piece of paper.
  • Put your name, your user ID Number, the round number, and the problem number on every page. Once you have registered for the USAMTS, you can find your user ID Numberon the My USAMTS Profile page.
  • Send all your solutions at once - it's very hard to deal with piecemeal solutions, and we cannot promise to do justice to them. Please send solutions to at least 2 problems.
  • Send your solutions on time. The deadline dates are below; solutions must be emailed, faxed, or postmarked on or before the deadline date.

    Round 1 October 9, 2007
    Round 2 November 19, 2007
    Round 3 January 8, 2008
    Round 4 March 11, 2008

  • Please write legibly and do not be verbose. If you use a pencil make sure it is dark enough to make our lives easier. Do not submit scratch work and other half-baked stuff. We want to see only your final, well-written, thoroughly thought-out solutions to the problems (in other words, explain clearly why your answer is correct). Technical word processors are encouraged, especially LaTeX, but not required.
  • Mail, fax, or email your solutions according to the following guidelines:
    • If you are mailing your submission, then tri-fold your papers and use a standard 4 1/8 inch by 9 1/2 inch business envelope. Use correct postage. There is no need to use express mail, registered, next day, certified, etc; we discourage such approaches. Address the envelope correctly, and be sure your return address is on it. Keep a copy of your solutions, but send us the original, not the copy. Do not return the problem sets. Mail to:

      USAMTS
      PO Box 2090
      Alpine, CA 91903-2090

    • If you are faxing your submission, fax them to (619) 445-2379. Do not fax solutions written in pencil - please use black ink only.
    • If you are emailing your submission, email them to solutions@usamts.org. In the subject line, include your name, your user ID, and the round number, like this: 'Richard Rusczyk, 4, Round 3.' We will only accept the following file types: DVI, PDF, RTF, TEX, TXT, TIF, GIF, BMP, JPG, EPS. We will not accept Word documents for security reasons. We strongly encourage students to submit solutions typeset with LaTeX (click here to learn how). If you do so, please email both the typeset document (meaning your PDF or DVI document) and the original source document (meaning all your LaTeX code, including any image files you use in your solutions). A template LaTeX form is available on the My USAMTS Forms page for you to use, along with thorough directions about how to use it. Please note that you do not have to use LaTeX; you may handwrite your solutions if you wish.
